Grrrrr…
10+ hours to reformat. XP Actually, that’s not even the reformatting, that was wiping the drive clean in order to be able to reformat.
And the updates…! Don’t get me started on those.
So yeah, got rid of the viruses/malware, then tried to spend the next two or so days fixing the damage they’d done. It didn’t work out. So I reformatted my entire drive, and its like I’ve got a new computer again, lol.
And nope, I didn’t really lose anything! Besides time and energy. Looooooots of time. I’ve just now finished getting Photoshop and Paint Tool Sai installed, and I still need a few others (like the software I use to work on the website here) so…Bleh, this whole past week has been nothing but trouble for me. XP
And remember kids, always make sure you’ve updated your antivirus and run scans every now and then! And spyware/malware scans too. I’ve learned my lesson. XP

How did you get the virus in the first place, and curiously are you using Firefox?

Use Norton AV > Infested by the end of the week
Use AVG > Very Safe, but Very Slow…
Use Avira > One or Two under the Radar, normally Joke Virals
Use Panda > Viruses become rarer than the dodo bird
This is my personal experience, Panda is a Shareware AV while the rest are Freeware, I’m running Avira and the worst that has hit me in the last 5 years was a suppression virus (stops programs from starting up) and I just needed to have task manager open before it could get running so I could kill the process then search and repair
Don’t ask me about any other AV as I haven’t seen or used them
