#167 – “You’re a terrible liar. But I like that about you.”
Today’s comic title is a quote! Anyone know where its from?
I’ve always heard that people usually give off some sort of sign when they’re lying: avoiding eye contact, a nervous tick…Or, in my case, the inability to stop smiling for more than 30 seconds. I’m good at it so long as I don’t look the person in the face, but if I’m trying to pull a joke on someone I can’t do it if they’re looking directly at me. I’ll bust out laughing every single time. I think some of my friends can vouch for that, lol.
I hope everyone’s weekend went alright! Mine was busy, as usual. I do have a few new things in store however, hopefully I’ll be able to get to them later today after work! And hello again to everyone that’s recently started reading the comic here! I hope you all enjoy your stay!
More later! See you all on Wednesday!
Also: SCOTT PILGRIM YAAAAAY (It comes out this Tuesday!
And the movie Friday!)

Gah, you’re good!
And he is, isn’t he? It might not be entirely intentional, however this part is! This whole day has been one huge puzzle for him basically, he’s just trying to figure out what’s going on and why.

Ah! I gotcha. I actually didn’t see it that way, but that makes a lot of sense.

I’m still sticking with my theory from the previous strip.

Billie’s harmless! And no clue on tthe quote, huh?

I’ve actually heard that a lot of people look down and to the left when they lie, which is precisely the direction Billie’s looking…

Looking to the left (your left, not her’s) does mean that you are constructing “lie”, but looking to the right means that you are remembering. So Billie’s eyes are to the right, not lying.
P.S. FW do not be so hard on Billie.

That’s what I’ve heard too! Though I didn’t remember that when I drew Billie doing that, it just turned out that way.

Nah, if I ever lie (which I do a lot because I only trust my BESTEST friends) I look straight at the person ang imagine that they aren’t there.

Starting to wonder if Fowo knew all this time that Billie was hiding something.

Plus that conversation those two dudes were having about trust gave it away too.

I have a tendency of avoiding eye contact. Avoiding eye contact for me is more of an inferiority complex. I work on my eye contact but its a slow process. I am a really transparent person and I actually do the opposite when I lie. As much as people say its a sign of lying, that is a norm that is a poor indicator of lying.

Actually, persons tend to show a decrease in “illustrators” (talking with the hands) and an increase in “manipulators” (fiddling with jewelry, rubbing their hands together, etc…) when lying. Also, they will tend to focus on maintaining eye contact when lying, in order to judge the other person’s reaction. “Lie To Me” is a great series to learn these sort of things.

It depends on the person…you have to have a baseline to work with.
On Average..someone who can’t maintain eye contact COULD be lying—or, at the very least, extremely uncomfortable. Eyes that shift downward can USUALLY indicate guilt or shame.

True, downcast eyes often indicate the subject’s anxiety, but usually only before and after lying. While actually lying, they will usually maintain eye contact.

Well only a few possi-Billie-ties here:
a) Billie’s been trapped in there so long he’s afraid to leave and go out into the world;
b) Billie’s job is to further trap FW in some evil scheme involving Lex;
c) Billie’s actually “NUMBER 1″
d) choice “a” and “b”
e) choice “b” and “c”
f) All of the above.

“Number 1″ – is a reference to an old 1960′s TV show from Great Britain called, “The Prisoner.”
It was about a British spy who, being fed up with the whole spy game and all that went with the job, quits… or so he thinks.
Shadowy figures knock him out, then whisk our ex-spy away. When the ex-spy wakes he’s in some isolated location called “The Village” were other shady characters try to trick, drug, torture and hoodwink the reason for his resignation, and if he’s turned “Double Agent.”
The “Number 1″ is a reference to the leader of these fiends, who is talked about but no one knows who he (or she) really is.
